Implementation of broadband radio access in LMDS 28 MHz technology.
The project has been financed from UE funds (at the amount of 40% of qualified costs) in the scope of Innovative Economy operational programme and activity 4.4: „New investments of high innovation potential”.
The project target
Implementation of broadband telecommunication services (the Internet access) based upon new radio access technology enabling data transmission of maximum capacity up to 92 Mbit/s. Due to the new system Crowley company intends to acquire new customers and increase its competitiveness on telecommunication services market.
The project scope
The project includes installation, within 18 months, of new, innovative radio access system (LMDS) with data transmission equipment (Ethernet cards for routers and Ethernet switches). The radio system consists of a base station (HT- sectors) and end terminals (RT) installed at the customer’s. The radio access system is produced by HNS (USA) and IP equipment is produced by Juniper (USA).
The system will be installed in the following cities: Warsaw, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Poznań, Wrocław, Cracow, Katowice, Ruda Śląska, Gliwice, Rzeszów, Lublin, Łódź.
The project duration is 18 months: from 25.09.2008 to18.03.2010.

The description of radio access technology:
The system of radio access PMP (Point to Multi-Point) is a technology using radio transmission for various data type transfer. Research and development works on the technology are currently being conducted in the area of expanding transmission abilities (capacities of up to 92 Mbit/s) whilst maintaining the quality of services realized in this system. The project will make use of the newest technological achievements allowing for providing services of high capacities with required quality maintained for individual service types such as: VoIP, VPN, the Internet access. In order to realize these services, apart from radio technology with 28 MHz channel width, Ethernet technology and IP will be used in higher layers. In order to provide service quality QoS (Quality of Service) mechanisms, characteristic for Ethernet technology (VLAN and priorities) and IP techniques (DiffServ mechanisms: queuing, marking, etc.), have been implemented in the radio system allowing for creation of various classes of network services.
Due to application of 28Mhz channel width for radio transmission it is possible to achieve capacities of up to 60 - 90 Mbit/s depending on modulation type. In combination with QoS mechanisms it enables us to provide a vas array of services for customers on a single radio link. Hence, PMP systems can be applied in place of outdated and uneconomic radio link systems (PTP – Point To Point). PMP System applied in the project allows for realization of broadband services of various type on a single link replacing inefficient radio link systems.
A number of end terminals (RT – remote terminal) can be connected to a single base station (HT- Hub terminal) in such system. Each terminal is connected with a customer or a group of customers who can be offered the whole array of services (telephony, the Internet, private network) of big capacities – up to 90 Mbit/s per terminal. The base station is connected by IP skeleton network to other base stations, the Internet and phone network.
